each pair. In the off (up) position the L.P. cocks cut off the
flow of fuel from the main tank and should not be used to
stop the engines, except in an emergency,as their use may
damage the H.P. pumps and aerate the fuel system.
(c) H.P. cock lever
The H.P. cock levers on either side of the seat in each
cockpit, beside the L.P. cocks ((3,79)in the front cockpit,
(89,123) in the rear cockpit). In the OFF (up) position
they cut off the supply of fuel to the burners and should
always be used for stopping the engines. The appropriate
one must always be closed in the event of engine failure.
(d) Balance cock
The balance cock (29) is on the floor of the front cockpit,
just aft of the rudder trimming tab control. It is pulled up
to interconnect the two compartments of the main tank.
(e) Drop tank controls
The transfer of fuel from the drop tanks is controlled by a
T-handle (35)at the top left-hand side of the front cockpit
instrument panel. The handle is marked PULL TO
JETTISON and is inscribed with an arrow. Pre-Mod.
1841 , the handle has three positions, WING ON, BELLY,
ON and OFF. When set to WING ON, fuel is transferred
from the wing drop tanks and when set to BELLY ON,
from the ventral tank. Mod. 1841 deletes the OFF position.
A red warning light (30), at the bottom left of the front
cockpit instrument panel, comes on whenever the pressure
in the transfer lines falls below 1 lb/sq.in. Pre-Mod. 1841
this light goes out when the handle is moved to OFF.
5. Drop tank jettison controls
(a) Ventral tank
The ventral tank is jettisoned by pulling the T-handle
(35) from any position. The handle is marked PULL TO
JETTISON.
(b) Wing drop tanks
The wing drop tanks are jettisoned by pulling back the
lever (83) on the starboard side of the front cockpit. 12
