VHF Frequency selected.
Rudder and aileron trimmers Check and set neutral. Lock on.
Tailplane actuator Test through full range on emer-
gency, lower cover then check
on normal and set at neutral.
(The stick should move for-
ward as nose-down trim is
applied and vice versa.) Tail-
plane switch (if fitted) OFF.
Note trim position on t.p.
incidence indicator and trim
to new position at least 1°
different. T.P. switch ON.
Check tailplane does not
move from new position.
Move stick fore-and-aft and
check tailplane follows up.
If the follow-up tailplane is fitted, during the check on the emergency
switch if the switch cover is lowered with the tailplane at a different
angle from that when the cover was raised the tailplane will revert
automatically to the original trim angle.

Elevator and aileron power con- Switch each ON in turn and
trol selectors move the control column
through its full traverse (using
a two-handed force if neces-
sary) to engage the controls
until free movement is felt,
check the indicators-black.
If Mod. 452 is incorporated hold the selector switch to POWER with
the left hand and move the control column with the right hand,
laterally for aileron engagement-fore and aft for elevator engage-
ment, until the corresponding magnetic indicator goes black. Then
release the switch. To engage aileron power more easily it is advisable
to either:-
(i) Select POWER with the stick held hard over to starboard and
then move it to port or
(ii) Attempt the engagement immediately after light-up before
hydraulic pressure builds up.
If Power is incorrectly engaged the controls revert to Manual on
releasing the switch.
