Standard Operational Procedures for
No. 122 Wing RAF Jever
                               RESTRICTED. Page. 3.

Snake Climb.

12. The take-off interval is to be 10 seconds, and to ensure greater accuracy
in timing the leader will call rolling thus:-

                       "01 ROLLING NOW"

13. Before commencing a turn, the leader is to make a clear executive call and
give his intended roll out vector thus:-

"01 TURNING LEFT ONTO 200 NOW"

14. The sub-section is to climb at the briefed speeds, maintain the leaders
headings, use 7700 r.p.m. and delay all turns by 10 seconds. All turns are to
be at 30 degrees angle of bank, and through not more than 90 degrees in any single
turn.

15. The leader is to call "Cloud Tops", immediately cloud is broken and No, 2
is to move out into battle formation. The following pair are to call when
contact with the lead pair and also give their relative position.

16. If a No. 2 loses his leader in cloud he is to turn away through 10 degrees
for 30 seconds, and then resume the original climbing vector. He should inform
his leader that contact has been lost.

Reporting Aircraft.

17. Using the leader as the reference point, all strangers, distinguishing
between aircraft and trails are to be reported by the clock code, pre-fixed
LEFT or RIGHT, stating whether high or low, the direction and range etc. For
example: -

              "0 2 B - LEFT 7 o'clock low two aircraft - closing
               in at two miles".

18. The formation leader will than cell "Contact" or alternatively give
instructions for the aircraft to be kept in sight until he has contact.

Use of D.M.E,'s

19. The leader is to brief formation members the beacons he requires them
to have selected.

20. When a D.M.E. reading is required from a member of your formation it will
be thus:-

             "0 1 B HAYRAKE". The No. 2 answers "HAYRAKE G.8 90".

R/T Channel Changes.

21. The formation leader is never to depart from the channel on which his
formation is operating. If steers or weather are required and it is not convenient
for the whole formation to change channels the No. 2 is to be instructed to
obtain them.

22. When a channel change has been ordered by the leader, he is to call for a
check in. There are to be no automatic check-ins.

Fuel Checks.

23. The leader is to brief for a "Bingo" call denoting a fuel state which has
been calculated as a guide in planning for return to base. The leader is also to
brief for a "Joker" call at a lower fuel state.
                                                         /Recovery
                                  RESTRICTED.
