Standard Operational Procedures for
No. 122 Wing RAF Jever
                               RESTRICTED. Page. 4.

Recovery.

24. The various types of recovery are contained in appendices 'A', 'B', 'C'
and 'D'.

Emergencies.

25. R/T Failure. When a member of a formation experiences radio failure
he is to rock wings, which is a signal for the other aircraft of the element
to rejoin close formation.

If failure is suspected on one box only, then the first channel on the
other box is to be selected.

When in close formation the pilot without radio will indicate whether it
is microphone, receiver or both by pointing to mask, earphones or both and
then giving a thumbs down signal.

If the leader is without radio, then the No.2 will take over lead of that
element and at the same time inform the other element loader who will take over
the lead of the four. Mission callsigns are not to change.

Hand Signals.

26. (a) Radio failure - as para. 25.

      (b) Electrical failure - a map held against the canopy.

      (c) Hydraulic failure - a map waved above the head.

      (d) Fuel emergency - Pretending to hold a glass, a drinking motion
followed by a thumbs down. Using each finger to denote a 100 lbs. then
remaining fuel may be passed by the open hand.

      (e) I wish to land immediately - a thumbs down (if none of the above
apply followed by pointing finger downwards.

      (f) Handing over the lead - point to new leader, then raise hand,
forefinger extended upwards to indicate No. 1 position and point forwards.

      (g) Open/Close dive brake - hand flat, edge forward, fingers parted -
      nod head forwards for operation.

      (h) Raise/Lower flaps - hand raised, fingers and thumb meeting and
opening alternately - nod head forwards for operation.

      (j) Raise/Lower gear - pull "chain" three times - nod head forwards
      for operation.

      (k) Fire - hand across throat in cutting motion, then pointing to
      area of fire.

Circuit Procedure.

27. Aircraft may break from battle formation or close echelon. The leader
should break over the threshold of the runway, selecting divebrake and throttling
back. 20° flap is to be selected at 300 kts, the speed downwind is to be not
less than 180 kts. The formation leader will call "Downwind" for all aircraft.
Each aircraft is to call "Finals three greens" and the leader will land on the
inside of the turn unless calling otherwise.

28. If a pilot overshoots he is to do so towards the dead side of the runway.
Following aircraft will continue to land on their original side and are not to
"fill the gap". The distance between aircraft landing in stream is not to be
less than 500 yards.
                                                         /Appendix 'A'
                                  RESTRICTED.
