		         PART IV - EMERGENCY HANDLING

A.L.2                 (h)  If at altitude, delay opening the parachute for as long as

Page 59             can be maintained, the safety harness should be undone before
                        ejection.

                 78.  Electrical system failures
		         
                   (i) If for any reason it becomes necessary to turn off both battery
                       and generator the trimming controls will not work, the flaps will
                       not lower and most of the instruments will become unservice-
                       able.  The fuel booster pumps will be inoperative which may
                       entail a reduction in r.p.m. and altitude to maintain satisfactory
                       engine running.  Also some fuel (up to 170 lb.) may be trapped
                       in the aft fuselage tank and be unusable since the transfer pump
               |       is also inoperative.  If complete electrical failure occurs the
               |       power controls alternate system will not operate either.
            (ii)  Generator failure
           If the generator failure warning light comes on, switch
           off all non-essential services immediately to reduce the
           battery load.  Hold the generator switch momentarily
           at RESET and then turn the switch ON.  If the generator
           does not restart, the light will remain on, the switch
           should be returned to OFF and a landing made as soon
           as possible.  When operating on the battery alone, power
           is available for a period varying between 7 and 28
           minutes depending on the services being operated and
           the state of the battery.
      (iii)Inverter failure
           (a)  If the single-phase inverter fails, the amber light (15)
                comes on and the A.4 sight, the IFF, radar, the
                cockpit temperature control system and the flow-
                meter and totalizer will cease to function.
           (b)  If the main three-phase inverter fails, indicated by
                the amber light (11) coming on, and the circuit
                breakers are not tripped, the stand-by inverter
                should be engaged by moving the instrument power
                switch (113) to ALTERNATE, and the lights should
                go out.  If the stand-by inverter fails, the red light
                (13) will come on and the A.C. operated flight
                instruments will be unserviceable.

           79.  Power controls emergency operation

           (i)  If the normal power controls hydraulic system fails the
                alternate system will automatically take over and the
                alternate system indicator light will glow.
           (ii) If the alternate system fails to take over automatically,
                switch the flight controls switch to ALTERNATE ON.
           (iii)If this fails to engage the alternate system, pull the
                manual override handle.

           80.  Trimming controls emergency operation
                If either of the normal aileron or tailplane trim controls
