gency fuel regulator to override the main one and cause
dangerous engine over-speeding or compressor stall
during rapid throttle movement
3. Fuel cocks
(i) The L.P. cock is opened and closed by operating the
engine master switch (81) on the right forward console.
(ii) The H.P. cock is opened by moving the throttle lever
from the OFF to the IDLE position past a stop on the
quadrant, and closed by movement in the reverse
direction.
4. Fuel booster pumps
Two booster pumps in the centre-section tank are ener-
gized when the engine master switch is ON and the
throttle is moved outboard from the OFF position to pass
the IDLE stop.
5. Drop tanks pressurising control
The drop tank pressurising control cock (37) is on the
left aft console. When the cock is ON and the engine
is running both drop tanks are pressurised by air from
the engine compressor.
6. Drop tanks release
The drop tanks may be released by the normal bomb
release system (see para. 91) or can be jettisoned simul-
taneously by either the bomb salvo button (57) or by the
emergency mechanical jettison handle (58) on the inboard
side of the left console. When drop tanks are
carried, check on entering the cockpit that the demo-
lition bomb selector switch (125) on the armament panel
is at OFF to prevent inadvertently jettisoning the tanks
if the bomb release button (75) on the control column
is pressed.
7. Fuel contents gauge and fuel pressure gauge
(i) The fuel contents gauge (31) is mounted at the bottom
of the instrument panel and indicates the total internal
