		     PART V - ARMAMENT EQUIPMENT

                 91. Bombs

                 (i) A removable bomb rack can be fitted under each wing
and each rack will carry single bombs from 100 to 1,000
lb., bomb clusters up to 500 lb., a chemical tank or a
                       fragmentation bomb rack assembly.
(ii) The demolition bomb SINGLE/ALL switch (125) on the
armament panel provides for releasing bombs (except
fragmentation bombs) or chemical tanks singly or
simultaneously when the bomb/rocket release button (75)
on the control column is pressed. With the switch at
ALL, both bomb racks are released simultaneously; with
the switch at SINGLE the left bomb rack is tripped as
the release button is actuated, and the right rack releases
when the button is pressed a second time. This switch
may also be used for jettisoning the wing drop tanks and
should be in the ALL position so that the tanks are
released together when the release button (75) is
                       pressed.
(iii) All bombs (except fragmentation bombs) are fused by
means of a switch (124) on the armament panel marked
TAIL ONLY and NOSE & TAIL.
(iv) A two-position bomb release selector switch (126) on the
armament panel provides for either MANUAL
RELEASE or AUTO RELEASE. At MANUAL
RELEASE the bombs are dropped when the release
pushbutton (75) is pressed. At AUTO with the release
pushbutton held in, the bomb is released automatically
by the A-4 sight at the correct point. During both bomb
release conditions, the correct bomb release point is
indicated by automatic extinction of the sight graticule
                       image circle.
                 (v) The fragmentation bomb selector switch (114) is on the
armament panel. Placing the switch at SINGLE TRAIN
results in release of the bombs in a train, from the left
rack and from the right, as long as the bomb release
button is pressed. When placed at ALL TRAIN, the
bombs are released in a train, from both racks simul-
taneously. The indicator (112) beside the fragmentation
bomb selector comes on with the selector at either
SINGLE TRAIN or ALL TRAIN and goes out when
the last bomb is released. When fragmentation bombs
are to be released the demolition bomb selector switch
                       (126) must be at MANUAL RELEASE.
