                           PART I-DESCRIPTIVE

     17. Air-intake filter control

A toggle handle (43) on the main instrument panel is
marked PULL and TURN. When pulled, it closes a
shutter in the normal air-intake and air is drawn
into the carburettor through the filtered-air intake on the
          top of the engine.
Filtered air should be used for ground running, take-off
and landing, and at all times in flight under dusty
          conditions.

     18. Air-intake heat control

The hot air shutter on the air-intake is controlled by a
knob (6) below the main instrument panel on the left-
hand side, and is marked PULL and TURN for warm air.
When the knob is in the "warm air" position the normal
air-intake and the filtered-air intake are both shut off and
warm air is drawn into the carburettor from an intake
which faces towarxd the engine cylinders so that it can
receive heated air escaping from between the inter-
          cylinder baffles.

When necessary, warm air should be used for ground
running, take-off and landing and in flight when icing
conditions prevail, or if the carburettor air temperature
          is less than 30°C.

     19. Engine starting controls

The ignition switches (10) and the engine starter push-
button (one of the switches at 9) are fitted on the left of
          the main instrument panel.

     20. Slow-running cut-out

          A push-pull control (42) marked PULL-FUEL CUT-
OUT for stopping the engine is fitted beside the air-intake
          filter control.

     21. Engine instruments

          A boost gauge (17), r.p.m. indicator (15), cylinder tem-
perature gauge (18) and oil temperature and pressure
gauges (12) are grouped to the right of the main instru-
ment panel. A carburettor air temperature gauge (16) is
at the top of the panel.
