R.A.F. JEVER |
3/11/52& |
4/11/52 |
Cine exercises in Range, Line and Deflection were carried out by all pilots. |
5/11/52 |
All pilots visited our new range at Meppen by road. |
6/11/52 |
We used the Meppen range for the first time. Unfortunately it has no
R/P target as yet, but thirteen sorties were made on the air to ground firing
targets. Conditions were bad, there being a very strong cross-wind and poor visibility and results were not good. |
7/11/52 |
Flying was only possible in the morning today, and again the major effort was on cine. |
8/11/52 |
Plt.Off. R.C.E. Duke joined the Squadron from No. 229 O.C.U. |
10/11/52 to 10/10/52 |
Opposite quarters for all throughout the day, in order to simulate
attacks on the 200 Kt. flag at Sylt. Six local night flying sorties were
completed before the cloud prevented further flying. |
11/11/52 |
Three pilots carried out dog-fighting exercises. |
12/11/52 |
Air to ground firing was carried out at Meppen range this morning.
Eight sorties were made, and four guns were used on each aircraft. A sports
afternoon. |
13/11/52 |
A full squadron photograph was taken. |
R.A.F. SYLT |
18/11/52 |
The squadron flew to Sylt in three sections. Bad weather and icing
caused us to be a day late leaving Jever. |
19/11/52 |
Four members who have been to Sylt before completed one sortie
each, but very low cloud prevented any further flying. |
20&21/11/52 |
No flying possible due to weather. |
22/11/52 |
All pilots who have been to A.P.S. before did air to air firing on the 200
Kt. flag. The other pilots must be given a demonstration trip in a Meteor or
Mosquito first, but these aircraft were not available today. |
23/11/52 |
All demonstration trips were completed except for Plt.Off. Dawes who
has left for England to compete in the R.A.F. Squash Championships. A full
days' flying was possible. |
24 to 26/11/52 |
All pilots continued air to air firing except Fg.Off. Beaumont, who has not
completed his post A.F.S. training. Scores progressed satisfactorily. |
27&28/11/52 |
Severe frost and icing, together with thick fog, prevented any flying on
these days. |
29/11/52 |
From mid-day the weather was good, and the programme was
adhered to. |
30/11/52 |
Heavy ground frost and icing on runways caused the cancellation of to-
days flying programme.
GENERAL |
During the first half of the month we were concerned with
preparations for the A.P.S. attachment of all recent additions to the
squadron. We were delayed in commencing our firing programme at Sylt by
very bad weather and ground frost, and by the end of the month we were
unavoidably behind our target of sorties.
DISCIPLINE MORALE |
AND |
As usual morale was raised by the visit to Sylt, due to the united efforts
to raise the squadron records and hence boost its reputation.
SPORT |
Plt.Off. Dawes who reached the semi-finals of the 2nd T.A.F. Squash
Championships competed in the R.A.F. Championships in U.K. The two
soccer teams played two games each this month and hung up their boots until we return from A.P.S. |
