Standard Operational Procedures for
No. 122 Wing RAF Jever
                                  RESTRICTED. Page 41

                   HUNTER, 40,000 FEET EVASIVE EXERCISE.

1. The target is to take standard evasive action; target manoeuvres, heights
and speeds are to be as follows:-

     (a) Hunter 40,000.

The target achieves a speed of 0.85M at 45,000' in a level 30° bank
turn either port or starboard. On a signal from the attacker the
target will increase, angle of bank to 60° and descend. When the speed
has increased to .87M the target will barrel reverse into climbing
60° bank turn achieving a maximum speed of .88M during the reversal.
When .8M is reached in the climbing turn, the target will barrel
reverse into a descending turn achieving a minimum speed of .75M during
the reversal. Positive G should be maintained throughout both
reversals which will necessitate overbanking on the top reversal.

2. The method of attack is as follows:-

     (a) Hunter.

The attacker positions approx. 950 yards astern on the inside of the
turn and above the target with a speed of .9M. The signal to the
target to increase the turn should be given when the attacker has closed
to 800 to 750 yards. Firing should take place between 700 yards and
     300 yards.

3. Each filmed attack is to show a double reversal of bank by the target
in the following order: bottom reversal followed by top reversal. Failure
to show double reversal of bank will result in disqualification of that
particular attack.

4. The rata of evasion is governed by the time available to the attacker
closing from 700 to 300 yards range. Thus both reversals should be completed
within about 20 secs, of the commencement of the attack.

                                  RESTRICTED.
