6. Points to note in Operation.
(a) Equipment should be checked in dispersal.
(b) Switch "off" the R/T box which is not to be used, before
switching on Green Salad, (Unless modification has been embodied).
(c) Indications in azimuth are only correct when wings are level.
(d) Elevation indications are unreliable because of angle of changes.
(e) Pilot is forced to fly in a series of "jerks".
(f) Almost full needle deflection should be used to give minimum
cut off and lowest frequency should be used.
(g) If the target is at 6 o'clock to the fighter it will be
indicated straight ahead. This situation can be recognised, however,
since any corrections made will move: the needle in the reverse sense.
(h) Any information on scramble of targets course and position are
invaluable because apart from helping the fighter to arrange a cut off,
the possibility of head on could be anticipated and avoided.
(j) Although Green Salad interceptions can be carried out by
single aircraft, a No. 2 is virtually essential as a "looker" because
of the amount of "head in the office" time required.
7. Limitations of equipment.
(a) Two jammers of equal strength indicate one jammer only in
central position.
(b) Switch jamming problem.
(c) No volume control.
