Standard Operational Procedures for
No. 122 Wing RAF Jever
                                    RESTRICTED. Page 11

Two Attacked by Four.

1. Turn into attacking pair - keeping them at high A/O.

2. The reverse can be dangerous - the second pair may nail you as you
reverse.

3. Better to keep your airspeed up by diving as you turn into each attack -
chance of catching one pair with others out of position.

4. Once again, if they achieve your airspeed at 6 o'clock split and achieve
lateral separation.

5. Free pilot helps as before - careful watch on free pair.

6. Against a good four break down, and away at 180°.

Will go no further with this.	The pattern becomes plain enough.

The main aim of defence is to try and sandwich the attacker.

Remember reversing successfully on a pair may be your last if they have
another pair.

The Circle of Joy.

            Break down inside the circle.

            Rotate the a/c with ailerons.

            Pull up again.

            You will gain.

Don't turn level slavishly at best turning speed .83.

                              DISCUSS THE FOUR AGAIN.

Principles of Defence.

1. If you slow down try and have a supporting pair high.

2. Turn into the attack - except at extreme range.

3. Attempt to keep the enemy at high A/0.

4. Keep airspeed up on patrol.

5. Don't reverse until you establish lateral separation.

6. If you lose No. 2 leave the area fast - have a system for picking him up.

7. Know your a/c.

8. Know your last ditch.

9. When told to break - BREAK.

10. Don't just watch a/c you can see - Cons. etc., search.

                                                       /11.

                               RESTRICTED.
