Standard Operational Procedures for
No. 122 Wing RAF Jever
                                    RESTRICTED. Page 10

The Diving Spiral

1. If you end up in front after a scissors your only chance lies in how
quickly you can got into a diving spiral.

2. Your best protection with an a/c at 6 is "g".
Don't fall into th trap of "g" before speed.

Follows on to the Last Ditch Manoeuvre.

1. It is a last ditch and not to be used with enemy a/c somewhere behind.

2. Used when enemy in range at 6 o'clock firing or about to fire and at
your airspeed.

3. Other ways if he is faster or slower.

4. Get your a/c into a high "g" turn as quickly as possible.

5. Remember you need airspeed for "g", drop your nose.

6. If he stays, throttle back.

7. As effects of power off become apparent use A/B end Flap.

8. Reverse with high "G" barrel.

9. After 30° reverse.

10. You should now have him in a scissor.

11. He won't have anticipated the throttle but he MAY see the A/B + Flap.

12. If you are still in front - No further problems!

Two Attacked by Two.

1. Turn into attack when they are just outside firing range.

2. Will depend a lot on closing speeds and angle off.

3. If you are lucky and they are coming in fast with a high A/0,
handle the reverse as described.

4. Don't fall into the trap of always turning level - most people do.

5. They may pull up early and never slide thro' 6 o'clock zone.

6. If they achieve your airspeed at 6 o'clock open out got lateral
separation and see what they do.

7. Should they stay together turn the attacked a/c away and sandwich.

8. Should the attacking pair take one for one you have no option, but to
fight one versus one.

                                            /Two

                               RESTRICTED.
