(iii) Set span adjustment knob to wing span of target aircraft,
so that, if the radar fails, manual ranging can be used.
(iv) When target is within range of 1,800 yds., the radar
target indicator light will come on and the sight range
indicator will begin to rotate.
(v) If more than one target is within range along the flight
path make sure the radar is tracking the desired target.
As range is decreased the graticule should grow larger
and span the target continually. Check the range
indicator against estimated range of target. If necessary
press the target selector button to shift radar to desired
target.
(vi) Press the electrical caging button to stabilize the sight
image, and begin tracking by placing the graticule on

(vii) After releasing the caging button, continue to track
smoothly, without slipping or skidding, for about one
second; then fire.
(viii)Should the radar fail (as indicated by the target
indicator light going out or by improper range indication)
use the manual range control incorporated in the throttle
lever.
(ix) For firing at ground targets, or in the event of sight
failure, move the mechanical caging lever on the sight
to CAGE and use it as a fixed graticule sight.
