		     PART V - ARMAMENT EQUIPMENT

                  (iii) Sight selector unit
The sight selector unit (115) on the armament panel has
three controls, the function selector lever, the rocket
setting lever, and the target speed switch:-
                       (a) The function selector lever is set at either BOMB
GUN or ROCKET to adjust the sight for the
desired operation. The lever will automatically
return to GUN when the radar target selector
button (73) on the control column is pressed.
                       (b) The rocket setting lever is used to provide a depres-
sion angle correction for the type of rocket to be
fired and the intended dive angle of the attack.
Settings are provided for three types of rockets,
5" HVAR, 2.25" SCAR and 2.75"-FFAR. At each
of the three positions are two gates, marked S and
N, for setting the intended dive angle. For attacks
between 0 and 40 degrees the pilot sets the control
at N (normal) and for attacks between 40 degrees and
60 degrees he sets the control at S (steep).
                       (c) The target speed switch is used for gunnery to
control deflection angle. When a slow target is to be
attacked the switch is set at LO; when the speed
of the target is similar to the Sabre the switch is
moved to HI. The TR position is used when firing
on a drogue or other training target.
                   (iv) Bomb/target wind control
The bomb/target wind control (116) is on the armament
panel and is used, when bombing, to compensate for the
components of wind velocity and target motion parallel to
the direction of the attacking aircraft. For stationary
targets, corrections are made on the dial UPWIND (for
bombing run into a headwind) or DOWNWIND (when
bombing run is made with a tailwind) according to
estimated wind velocity. If wind direction is not in line
with the course of the aircraft during a bombing run, the
amount of correction must be estimated. When the
target is moving, additional correction must be made for
velocity of target. For approaching targets, correction
is downwind, for receding targets, correction is upwind.
When the sight is used for firing rockets or guns, the
                        pointer should be on ROCKET/GUN.
                   (v) Radar target selector
When the radar detects a target, it locks on it and
measures its range. The radar may be shifted to another
