PART V - ARMAMENT EQUIPMENT
target by means of the largest selector button (73) on the
control column. Holding the button in for several
seconds causes the radar to reject that target upon which
it had locked. The radar can then lock on targets at
ranges greater than the rejected target until the maximum
radar sweep range is reached. It then automatically
recycles, commencing to sweep from minimum sweep
range.
(vi) Radar range sweep control
The rheostat switch on the left of the sight can be used
to lower radar ranging distance to prevent radar from
locking on the earth when the aircraft is at low altitude.
(vii) Radar target indicator
The radar target indicator light on the sight comes on
when radar has locked on the target while tracking
during gunnery operations.
(viii)Target span adjustment knob
Used in connection with the manual ranging system
during gunnery operation, the target span-setting knob is
used to set the span of the target aircraft. This is
unnecessary when radar ranging is used.
(ix) Graticule dimmer control
The brightness of the graticule may be adjusted by the
dimmer control below the sight.
(x) Filament selector switch
Selection of alternative filaments (primary or secondary)
within the lamp that illuminates the sight image is con-
trolled by the filament selector switch (127) on the
armament panel.
(xi) Gyro caging button
A caging button (47) is provided on the throttle lever to
stabilize the graticule image prior to making an attack.
(xii) Gyro mechanical caging lever
A mechanical caging lever on the right of the sight is
moved left to UNCAGE and right to CAGE. For firing
at ground targets, or in the event of sight failure, the lever
may be placed at CAGE and the graticule used as a
fixed sight.
(xiii)Manual ranging control
A twist grip incorporated in the throttle lever (62) pro-
vides for manual ranging during gunnery operation when
radar ranging is erratic (below 6,000 ft. on overland
targets). Manual ranging can be carried out between
approximately 400 yds. and 900 yds. Clockwise rotation
