I write to confirm that this year's AGM has been booked and confirmed at the above hostelry for Sat 20 Mar 04. Doors will be open from 1700 - 2300 hrs and food from the bar restaurant menu will be served from 1900 hrs onwards. Clearly our performance last year was well received as our booking has been suitably welcomed.

Despite all the last minute chopping and changing last year's AGM was a successful evening. At the height of the event we had a head count of 32 and I attach a list of all those who "warned in" which totals 24 with some 6 ladies attending as welcome guests. I am grateful to those who were able to make it. With this being the first time with the new management it was important that we were able to front-up with viable figures. The change of date from Jan to Mar at short notice had caught a few of our regulars out but there was a general feeling that we should persevere with the Mar date. With evenings being lighter and perhaps less cold we may well attract some of our more elderly steamers. Mr. President (Ken G.) was one who was unable to attend but Doug Adamson acted as a very able stand-in at short notice, for which we are very grateful. The Golden Share Award went this year to B. B. Sharman who many will recall was the originator of same - thank you B. B. but please let us have it back.

As always it is sad to relate that, during the year, we have lost two of our members; Norman "Boss" Buddin died somewhere in the West Country where he had retired to from being CFI at Cleveland Flying Club and, just recently, Gerry Eades on 5 Feb 04 in Lincolnshire.

At the 03 AGM the suggestion was made by a number of individuals that we should create a JSL website. Mike Ryan has very kindly volunteered to take on the task using some specialist assistance he has access to. To this end he will be giving a short review at the AGM on progress to date and seeking input ideas/ articles etc., from members. As part of the build up I would be grateful if the attached questionnaire could be completed and returned. Clearly any input you mark with an asterisk will not be published on the web but I would still like to have it, if possible, for our own internal register which will remain a separate item exclusive to fellow steamers.

I also attach a letter from Al Pollock which is self explanatory.   If members can indicate on their questionaire if they would like a copy at the AGM we will see what can be done.   Failing that, ordering details are provided.

Contact details remain unchanged as follows:-

Ken Goodwin   Auldcroft, Plud Street, Wedmore, Somerset BS28 4BE
Tel: 01934 712228 Jeff Jeffrey 2 Hawkes End, Brampton, HuntingdonCambs.PE28 4TW
Tel: 01480 454788
Finally thank you for your letters and cards through the year - they will be in the "info folder" on the night for all to see.   We look forward to seeing you on 20 Mar at Steaming Time (1700 hrs).   For those who can't make it this year please target 19Mar 05 - hopefully at the same venue.   As usual, all details will be subject to confirmation nearer the time.

Would you all complete the attached annex, whether attending or not, and let me have it soonest, thank you.

Last, but by no means least, our thanks to Peter Baines and his organisation for continuing to so effectively process our correspondence.   Much appreciated Peter, please convey our thanks to Jessica.

TMJ.

Dear Jeff,                                 26 January 2004

As mentioned, I heard that Gunther & Roger have been invited to this year's Jever Steam Laundry (pretty certain this was Ken Goodwin's good idea) and you suggested I sent you brief details for whatever summary you wish to make for those Launderers unable to make the JSL in March, where there should be a few copies around for £14.95.

The book "RAF Hunters in Germany - Front Line Defenders in the Cold War" is by Gunther Kipp & Roger Lindsay

The above book has received good reviews from the RAF Historical Society & other magazines on its coverage of the Hunter's operational service in Germany.   Gunther Kipp and Roger Lindsay, the authors, hope to be at the Jever Steam laundry this year.   Topics include a review of the RAF in Germany post-1945, information on Station locations and facilities, a breakdown of operations by the different Hunter Marks and the Groups, Wings, Squadrons and Stations from which they flew, individual unit markings, 2TAF aerobatic teams, the Armament Practice Station at Sylt with its Meteors, the various Station Flights, individual histories of all Hunters operated in Germany and accidents, with a few recollections from pilots.

Printed on 72 pages of high quality A4 paper and priced at £14.95, the softback book has 45 colour and 128 black and white photographs.   The ISBN number is 0-9544069-0-7 and copies can be obtained, UK post free, at £15 from bookseller: Simon Watson The Aviation Bookshop 656 Holloway Road London N19 3PD Tel. 020 7272 3630
Email: info@aviation-bookshop.com or £16.50 from the joint author Roger Lindsay on roger@ecosse.net 7 North Meadow, Hutton Rudby, North Yorkshire TS15 0LD Tel 01642 701233

For those interested in Martin Bowman's £25 2002 book "Hunters The Hawker Hunter in Military Service" (thin on 2nd TAF but it complements the other Hunter theatres pretty well with a splendid collection of 153 mostly previously unpublished coloured photos and hardback 10 in. by 10 in., it is certainly worth the concessionary rate we have obtained of £15 inc UK P&P (quote Hunter Code letters HU) from Haynes Publishing Sparkford & Sutton Publishing via tel 01953 442030 (for credit cards - Helen Holness)

                                      All the best.
       Yours aye
           Alan
P.S. Am away for c. 2 weeks tomorrow.
