Brian Thornton says:" I flew it on 11Oct60 on a high level sortie and suffered 2 flame-outs on the run- in to the break. Fortunately it relit and got me to the runway albeit on fire at the back end. I was unhurt. The ground crew were unable to induce a flame-out on the engine running pan (ERP) and Chas Hopkins our SEngO took over himself. After after prolonged engine running on the ERP he too had no recurrence but decided to have one more run before giving up and on that run it flamed-out and I was believed! They eventually found the cause to be a split recuperator bag allowing transfer pressure air into the fuel. Rear fuselage was a write- off and it was fitted with a completely new rear fuselage and flew again before the Sqn disbanded. Then to 2 Sqn on 4Jan61, followed by 229 OCU in 64 , RNAS Brawdy Oct76, finally TWU/234 Sqn as No. 30 77.
