Other Emergencies
Fire on start up. If indicated by lights or a bloody great shout - close HP and hit 'Press to Stop
Starter'. Switch off Engine Master Switch then turn off Battery last. Evacuate
cockpit.
Burst tyre on Indication will be a shimmy on nose wheel. If travelling 'fast'
Take Off take off and use up fuel to land light.
If slow and little room left, chop everything and keep straight with brake and nose wheel
steering.
If slow and plenty room, keep engine until at standstill then close down.
Engine failure Close idle to stop. Switch off Engine Master Switch, and everything else, jettison
on take off external loads, open canopy electrically. Land on belly at 160 kts.
Fire Warning If the forward light comes on you usually have 5 seconds to eject. Close throttle to stop
and have a quick look. If it goes out DO NOT attempt a relight.
If the aft light comes on the situation is not so bad. Close throttle to idle and have a
check around. If it goes out then try using reduced power.
Gliding distances
No wind and clean aircraft; 1000' per 2 nm. Air speed 185 knots
No wind with tanks 190 knots.
From 40,000' it should glide 90 nm.
Forced Landing Pattern
72% power speed brakes OUT. At B reduce to 69%.

A Overhead 10,000' C Finals 170 kts, flaps down
B 4,000' gear down, speed D Over the hedge at 125 - 130 kts
brakes and flaps as reqd. 185 kts Aim to touch down one third along
runway
Wheels up landing
* Get rid of any external stores
* Open canopy electrically
* Flaps down speed brakes out
* Gear up
* Throttle off
* Switches off
* Lock harness
* Touch down 160 kts
With one wheel up
* Jettison external loads
* Straight in approach
* Bounce it to try and lock wheel down
* If that has not worked, open canopy
* Harness locked
* Land on available gear and hold off or wing up until controls lose effect.
