As from today the JaBoG 38 Friesland is finally disbanded.
UPJEVER/HBU - The JaBoG 38 'Friesland' is now history. As from this day the unit will be finally
disbanded. The Squadron announced yesterday in a 'last press bulletin' that the official disbandment of the
Friesland Squadron took place on Friday and that the remaining military and civilian personnel paraded in
Hangar 2 under the command of Oberst Axel Pohlmann. In his speech the Commander of the 4th Luftwaffe
Division in Aurich, Major-General Peter Schelzig appreciated the work carried out during the run-down period.
Oberst Pohlmann thanked all personnel for the excellent support he received in this difficult task. He
recollected on the disbandment ceremony held in the Alten Markt in Jever on 25th May in which the Squadron
said goodbye to the people of the town.
Finally the Squadron Commanders, Staff Officers and the Commanding Officer were relieved of their commands and the Squadron Standard was handed over to Major-General Schelzig by Oberst Pohlmann.
As from tomorrow there will be a so-called Follow Up Command which is commanded by the previous CO Oberstleutenant Reinhard Milter which will wind up all the remaining tasks, in particular in the area of stores,
by the end of the year.
At a reception held in the Officers Mess Oberst Pohlmann was relieved of his command as CO of the Bundeswehr Unit Jever by the Deputy Commander of the 24th Area Defence Command in Oldenburg, Oberstleutenant Peter Oligmüller. This task has now been passed on to the Battalion CO of the Luftwaffe
Regiment Oberstleutenant Friedhelm Tränapp who will continue until the build-up of the full regimental
strength is completed next year. At a parade that will be held on Thursday the new Air Base Services
Squadron will take up its operational duties on the Jever Air Base.
