NOVEMBER, |
|
OPERATIONS
The month was notable for the poor weather, only three days being classed
as fully fit for flying. Consequently a large proportion of the programme was
devoted to cine training and formation practices. Pilots became proficient at
executing G.C.A.'s in marginal weather conditions, a total of 138 being recorded. A
further 22 were flown during eight high level night cross - countries.
Evaluation flying of the Hunter Mk. VI continued.
Flight Lieutenant J.A. Watson finished a sortie on main wheels only following
the failure of the nose wheel unlock mechanism.
The breakdown of hours was as follows.
Swift Day 211.00
Swift Night 23.55
Vampire T.11 Day 21.05
Hunter Mk. VI Day 6.30
Personnel
Two new pilots joined the Squadron during November.
(a) Flight Lieutenant R.L. Barcilon, from the No. 111 Squadron aerobatic
team.
(b) Flight Lieutenant E. Sharp, an instructor from R.A.F. Oakington.
Social
The month was marked by an impromptu visit from No. 79 Squadron during
a spell of bad weather, and the broken ankle sustained by a nameless member of
the Squadron during a rather hectic Guest Night.
