				PART I-DESCRIPTIVE

harness will remain locked until the lever (102) is moved
to the locked position and then back to unlocked.
by raising the left-hand grip (101) of the seat.

          33. Anti-G suit provisions

An air pressure outlet connection (104) on the front of
the seat is provided for attaching an anti-G suit. A valve
                 (99) on the left aft console has two settings HI and LO.
Accelerations above 1.75G (approx.) cause the valve to
open and inflate the suit. For each additional force of
                 1G a corresponding 1 lb./sq. in. (LO setting) or 1½ lb./sq.
in. (HI setting) air pressure is exerted in the suit. A
button (98) on top of the valve, when pressed, inflates
the suit momentarily and is used to lessen fatigue during
                 long flights

           34. Cockpit lighting

Three rheostat switches, mounted on a panel on the cock-
pit starboard wall, control the cockpit lighting. The
left-hand switch (89) controls the individual ring lights
fitted round each instrument, the centre switch (90) con-
trols the two auxiliary floodlights mounted on each side
of the cockpit, and the right-hand switch (91) controls
the lighting of the consoles and the central armament
panel. This switch also acts as a master switch for the
light in the stand-by compass which can be switched on
and off by a switch (85) on the right forward console.
The auxiliary floodlights are operable at all times
irrespective of the position of the battery switch or
whether the engine is running or not.

           35. Exterior lighting

           (i) Navigation lights and fuselage lights
The navigation lights on the wing tips and tail and the
two white fuselage lights, one at the back of the canopy
and the other below the fuselage are controlled by a
two-position dimmer switch (78) marked BRIGHT and
DIM, and a three-position selector switch (86) marked
OFF, STEADY and FLASH. Both switches are on the
forward right console and when the selector switch is at
FLASH the wing tip lights go on and off and the tail
lights alternate from white to yellow but the fuselage
lights remain on. With the switch at STEADY all the
                 lights remain on.
