                   PART 1V-EMERGENCY HANDLING

     (b) The best gliding speed is 170 knots. The rate of descent
with undercarriage down, flaps up, at this speed, is
          approximately 2,500 ft./min.

     (c) If a forced landing on an airfield is being made, aim to be
at 2,000 ft. at the end of the downwind leg opposite the
          caravan.

     (d) Maintain 150 knots crosswind; lower full flap when
required (be prepared to pump the flaps down). Cross the
          threshold at 120 knots.

     (e) Carry out the following actions during the circuit:

          Airbrakes IN
          Ventral and wing drop Jettison
             tanks
          Undercarriage Down below 175 knots
          				Lever fully down
          				Three green lights
          				Nosewheel indicator showing
          Brakes Pressure. Operation (120lb./
          				   sq. in. at each wheel)
					Off. Individual wheel brake
				    	   needles reading zero
          Flaps As required
Fuel H.P. and L.P. cocks OFF
Harness Seat harness tight and locked
          				Parachute harness released
Hood Jettison (at the pilot's dis-
                            		   cretion)

     91. Ditching

Tests indicate that in calm weather the aircraft should
          ditch well.

     (a) Jettison the wing and ventral tanks.

     (b) Jettison the hood.

     (c) Tighten the seat harness, fasten and tighten the helmet
strap and release the parachute harness.

     (d) make a normal powered approach with the undercarriage
up and full flap selected. Flatten out the approach just
before touchdown to keep the rate of descent to a mini-
mum. Ditch along the swell or, if the swell is not steep,
          into wind.
