Last Phantom lands at GAF Jever - 5Jul13.   That was it. - Midday yesterday the very last F-4F Phantom landed on the runway at GAF Jever.   Some 60 odd spotters together with foreign and German professional journalists watched this aviation spectale from the taxiway on the station.   The MU will now commence to dismantle the aircraft from which some of the parts will be put to further use.   After the demilitarisation and providing they have not have been sold off by the German government, the remaining aircraft will finally be scrapped.

Final Destination - GAF Jever   In the 40 years of GAF service and with a grand total of 925.000 flying hours, no Phantom has ever been lost due to a technical failure.   A few spares for other systems can be re-used, such as the radar for the F-18s.   Some other countries in the world still fly the Phantom so certain spare parts will still be required.   The MU will require around 1100 man hours per aircraft before it is demiliterised and can be scrapped.   How many aircraft will actually survive depend on how many buyers can be found for the non-airworthy air-frames.   (Thanks to Maurice Parker.)
