NAAFI break at Buckeburg on detachment for Exercise Holdfast - 12-24Sep52.   Lofty tells me that on the way to Buckeburg they lost the rations wagon.   They had to pilfer fruit from the roadside.   (Click to see the 93 Sqn Movement Order for the deployment to Buckeburg.)   Ken Sambrooks says the one thing he now recalls about the exercise was all the aircraft on dispersal really well camouflaged when the well camouflaged NAAFI van arrived and a big queue formed on the taxiway just as a recce plane from the opposition flew over in a low sweep.   Next morning about a dozen photographs were dropped with the caption "YOU'RE ALL DEAD".   (Thanks to Lofty Hope.)
