Standard Operational Procedures for
No. 122 Wing RAF Jever
THE JEVER WING RESTRICTED FLYING ROUTINE - WINTER 1959/60.

Command and Control.

1. The decision to fly and the intensity of the sortie rate is decided by
0.C. Flying Wing at the 08.30 Met. Briefing each day. All pilots and
D.A.T.C.O.'s are to attend. Thereafter the F.W.D.O. is responsible for
increasing or decreasing the intensity in accordance with the weather state
as follows: -

               Green	-	Unlimited.

               Amber I	-	6 Speaking units per 15 mins.

Amber II	-	4 Speaking units per 15 mins.

Amber III	-	3 Speaking units per 15 mins.

2. One speaking unit is not to consist of more than two aircraft.
Formations of four aircraft carrying out a tactical Q.G.H. (the details of
which are contained in the Wing Standard Operational Procedures Book) are to
book two landing times. A rating test is also to book two landing times.

3. Diversions.

As long as the weather at Oldenburg remains suitable, this airfield will
be selected as No. 1 diversion. Dependent on the weather, Gutersloh will be
selected as the second and reserve diversion. No airfields outside a radius
of 100 nautical miles of Jever are to be selected as pre-planned diversions.

Sylt may be used as a diversion. However, the movement intensity at
Sylt, if the weather is fit for firing, is liable to make Sylt unsuitable to
act as diversion airfield for Jever aircraft. Therefore, before Sylt is
selected as a diversion, the following information must be obtained:-

     (a) Sylt weather forecast.

     (b) Flying intensity

     (c) Acceptance capacity.

ACTION TO BE TAKEN THEN A WEATHER DETERIORATION AT BASE NECESSITATES
                             A RESTRICTION.

Action by the F.W.D.O.

4. The F.W.D.O. is immediately to decide what restriction is necessary as
in para. one above. He is to check that the weather at Oldenburg is still
satisfactory as a diversion and pass the weather state and diversion airfield
to : -

     (a) Wing Operations.

     (b) Approach Control

Action by the Ops. Officer.

5. The Ops. Officer instructs: -

     (a) S.O.C. to inform airborne high level aircraft that the weather at
Base has deteriorated to AMBER 1, 2 or 3 and that the main diversion in
use is Oldenburg or Gutersloh - The S.O.C. will call each mission stating
for example "Base Oranges are now AMBER 2 JOHN", when Oldenburg is the
diversion or "AMBER 2 WHISKY" when Gutersloh or another airfield within
the 100 nautical miles radius is the diversion. The words "JOHN" and
"WHISKY" are informative only, and are not an order to divert.

                                                         /(b)
