LOW LEVEL STRIKES.
Primary Considerations.
1. Instructions will normally be received by moans of an Operation Order
Pro-Forma.
(a) Study the Operation Order Pro-Forma. Some of these items will
probably be left to the discretion of the fighter leader.
(b) Consider the weather conditions over base, en route and at the
target.
(o) Extract the relevant particulars from the Pro-Forma concerning the
strike force.
(d) Consider the type of weapon to be used if not already detailed in
the Pro-Forma.
Planning.
2. The planning of a ground attack sortie requires care and attention to detail.
(a) Study they target area on ¼ inch and 1 inch to the mile maps.
(b) Study photographs of the target.
(c) Formulate a plan of attack considering the following: -
(i) Enemy defence positions
(ii) The position of the bomb line.
(iii) Fighter defences.
(iv) Radar Coverage.
(v) Target area topography.
(vi) The position of the sun.
(vii) Weather conditions.
(viii) Wind direction.
The Attack.
3. The cloud base and wind conditions will to some degree affect the type of
attack when using rockets. The entry height of the attack is dictated by the
required dive angle and the cloud base.

Entry Height |
10,000 3,000 |
5,000 3,000 |

4,600x 2,750x |
9,450x 5,650x 1,900x |
4. From the above table the entry height and distance out can be used in conjunction
with the radius of turn nomogram to find the turn in point. From the turn in point
the pull up point can be found, depending upon the height required.
