Standard Operational Procedures for
No. 122 Wing RAF Jever
                              RESTRICTED. Page 15

     (e) If radar-laid guns are used, then radar lock ON will probably
     conform to the following principles:-

          (i) Lock "ON" will be made on the first target to enter
the radar's field of scan, or if there are two targets it will
          lock "ON" the nearest.

(ii) Lock will be maintained until ether (a) the target passes
out of radar contact range or (b) the target is physically
          blanked by some other target.

(iii) If presented with two targets at the same range the
radar will select one and lock "ON". It will not hunt between
the two; neither will it lock "ON" to a point midway between
          the two.

     (f) If an attack is unsuccessful and the target is not destroyed
then if all ammunition has been used some form of ramming attack must
be considered and any break away at the end of a gun firing attack
     should allow for such re-positioning.

13. When aircraft have attacked their target and if lack of fuel or
ammunition does not permit another interception, return to base should be
made at maximum speed so that turn round may be completed with the minimum
delay.
