Standard Operational Procedures for
No. 122 Wing RAF Jever
                           RESTRICTED. Page 4

	                              APPENDIX 'C' TO JEVER WING
	                              STANDARD OPERATIONAL PROCEDURES.

                          TACTICAL Q.G.H.

1. This descent is for weather conditions with low cloud base and visibility
less than 2 - 3 miles, or hazy conditions under a fair cloud base. A Q.G.H. is
mandatory when the airfield operational state is AMBER 1.

2. The formation leader is to request a Q.G.H. when approximately 20 miles
from base and will inform the approach controller how many aircraft are in the
section and in which order they will descend.

3. This procedure is controlled by the Approach Controller and normally starts
from overhead at 20,000 feet, or cloud tops, whichever is higher.

4. The section should keep in battle formation on the run up and turn overhead.
When the formation is steady on the outbound heading the subsection (or second
section to descend) is to echelon away from the direction of the procedure turn,
which will be starboard.

5. The leader and his No. 2 wil1 descend on instructions from the controller
and announce it thus:- "Mission 01 descending on one two zero now". 10 seconds
after the word "Now" the subsection will descend and will only call doing so if
there is another pair following.

6. The descent configuration is:- 300 knots
                                        6,500 revs.
                                        20 degrees flap
                                        Dive brake out.

The No. 2's should be in battle formation at the start of the descent and it
will not be necessary therefore for tho leader to call for flaps and dive brakes.

7. If the leader is given an alteration of course to his outbound heading
he will call turning thus:- "Mission 01 turning onto one four zero NOW".
Subsequent pairs will alter course 10 seconds after the executive word "NOW".
The leader is to call turning at the given height and following pairs are to
turn 10 seconds after the pair ahead, regardless of height. 30 degrees of bank
is to be used for all procedure turns.

8. Once inbound, pairs will be given individual headings by the controller.

9. At 2000 feet pilots will commence rounding out to be level by the break
off height down to which they have been cleared.

10. When contact with the appropriate I.P. section leaders should discontinue
the Q.G.H. and call "1.P." on local frequency. Normally no attempt should be
made for the pairs to join up.

11. Subsections are to join the circuit on the "dead side" of the runway for a
break at the threshold from battle formation or echelon. If the visibility is
poor, pairs are to rejoin at 200 feet below cloud base and reduce the height
downwind by half to minimise the risk of collision with subsequent pairs
rejoining.
