49. Management of the fuel system
(i) The internal tanks all feed automatically as soon as
the engine has been started.
(ii) When using drop tanks the pressurising cock should be
turned ON before starting and turned OFF again after
stopping the engine at the end of the flight.
(iii)The totalizer should be set to show the total fuel con-
tents carried.
(iv) During take-off and while climbing at high power the
fuel flow to the engine is about 6,000 lb./hr. Because
the drop tanks transfer at a total of 4,000 lb./hr. the
balance of the total fuel flow is taken from the internal
