PART I-DESCRIPTIVE
15. Engine fire warning system
Two warning lights (23) above the right side of the instru-
ment panel are marked FWD and AFT. If the AFT light
comes on , a fire is indicated in the combustion chambers
and tail pipe; if the FWD light comes on a fire is indi-
cated forward of the fire wall which is just aft of the
compressor. Operation of the warning system can be
checked by pressing the test pushbutton (25) below the
lights. There are no fire-extinguishers.
MAIN SYSTEMS
16. Electrical system
(i) Description. The 28 volt D.C. system is powered by a
400 ampere engine-driven starter generator with a 24 volt
34 ampere-hr. battery as a standby. The starter-generator
acts as a starter motor through an electrical relay until
the engine r.p.m. reaches approximately 23 per cent. when
the starter is automatically disconnected.
Power for the A.C. system is supplied through a single-
phase inverter and a three-phase main inverter with a
three-phase stand-by inverter. The inverters obtain their
supply from the main D.C. system.
The loadmeter (34) (ammeter) on the instrument panel
indicates the total percentage of amperage being used.
(ii)Power distribution
(a) When the engine is running at idling r.p.m. or above
and the generator is switched ON, all services will
operate from this source.
(b) If the generator is not supplying power, some of the
services will continue to operate when the battery/
starter switch is set to BATTERY.
(c) A few services will operate at all times, even with
the battery switched OFF, so long as the battery ter-
minals are connected.
(d) When an external power supply is engaged, all ser-
vices will operate.
(e) The services concerned in the first three groups are as
follows:-
