                            PART II-HANDLING

NOTE.-(i) The initial straight approach should be made
at a speed 5 knots above these figures.

(ii) When landing from a glide approach with
full flap, the change of attitude on levelling
out is considerable, and speed drops off
                     quickly.

    43. Mislanding and going round again

    (i) Open the throttle fully and if the flaps are fully down
          climb at 70 knots.

(ii) Raise the flaps to the TAKE-OFF (maximum lift) posi-
          tion. There is no sink.

(iii) At a safe height raise the flaps fully and retrim.

    44. After landing

    (i) When clear of the runway, raise the flaps before taxying
          in.

          On reaching disperal:
(ii) Open the throttle to 2,000 r.p.m. and check each magneto
          in turn.

(iii) Throttle back to about 600 r.p.m. and idle at this speed
for about 30 seconds. Then stop the engine by operating
          the slow running cut-out.

NOTE.-In cold weather, as the response to exercising the
propeller during warming up may be sluggish, or
at all times if work is to be carried out on the
propeller after flight, the r.p.m. control lever
should be set to minimum r.p.m. and the throttle
opened sufficiently to change the pitch to fully
coarse before the engine is stopped. Normally
the engine may be stopped with the r.p.m. control
                lever fully forward.

(iv) When the engine has stopped, release the slow running
cut-out, turn off the fuel, switch off the ignition and all
other electrical services, and set the ground/flight switch
          to GROUND.
