Flying Operations at GAF Jever to End
Bundeswehr: Wittmund QRA will have two possible diversion bases
In just over a years time (in 2013) the Station in its function as an airfield will come to an end.   GAF Jever: The Bundeswehr defence cuts still keep a tight hold on the military base at Jever.   In September a chapter will come to a close when all flying operations will end.   The last aircraft for dismantling by the MU will by then have landed and the runway at Jever will only be used as a diversion for the Wittmund QRA.   If required it will also be possible for the Wittmund QRA to divert to GAF Norvenich or Laage near Rostock. Future Bundeswehr plans for Jever see the station playing a large and leading role as a GAF Regiment Depot, but as from September no longer as an airfield.   In cases where the Regiment require air transport to any operations then buses to GAF Wittmund could be used said the Planning Commission.   Also a nostalgic shot of Runway 28.   (Thanks to Maurice Parker.)
