Last end of year Roll-call of the Luftwaffe Regiment Battalion: Soldiers on Duty World Wide

Kommander Friedhelm Tränapp spoke of a 'success story'.
New Regiment will have up to 90% regular airmen.

UPJEVER/HBU - As successor to the Fighter/Bomber Squadron 38 'Friesland' which has already disbanded and the follow-up command which will finish off the remaining work in the next few days, the Luftwaffe Regiment with its H.Q. at Upjever will carry the name 'Friesland'.  This announcement was made by the CO of the Luftwaffe Regiment Battalion Oberstleutenant Friedhelm Tränapp at the parade held yesterday.

Servicemen from the Luftwaffe Regiment Squadrons stationed at Upjever, Wittmund and Diepholz paraded yesterday morning on the station for the first as well as the last battalion end of year roll-call and which from the 1st July 2006 will be part of the newly formed Luftwaffe Regiment.  Tränapp spoke of this as a 'success story'.  In the negotiations on personnel, all the requirements for the future regiment were accepted and financed by the MOD.  Tränapp said "Here in Jever we will form a regiment, which together with the 3 garrisons, will have more than 1,800 service posts at our disposal."  One of the many essential improvements will be that the regiment will consist of 90% regular airmen (4 and 6 year engagements).  Up until now the ratio of regular servicemen was approximately 50% in which the other half was made up by National Servicemen and Voluntary National Servicemen.  "The increase in regular airmen will substantially improve the planning reliability and training levels."  said Tränapp in the Press Conference.

The year 2005 was a 'hammer hard year' and 2006 will not be a lesser challenge for the regiment.  The detachment stationed in Mazar-e-Sharif in Afghanistan will continuously grow and will be fully operational by the end of this year.  Amongst other duties the regiment carries out fire prevention, ABC defence and bomb disposal duties.  "All our thoughts are today and especially during the coming festive season with our comrades on duty in Afghanistan", said Oberstleutenant Tränapp.  The achievements of the airmen stationed there have been appreciated by all sides, and lately by the former Minister of Defence, Peter Struck who in a letter thanked the Luftwaffe Regiment personally.  He hereby passes this praise on to the whole Battalion, said Tränapp.  He himself will leave the Battalion at the end of March.
