Maurice Parker preparing belts of 30 mm ammunition for loading into the Hunter Gun Packs - APC Sylt - Feb58.   Before loading the gun packs, the tips of the projectiles would be dipped in non-hardening coloured paint so that later, when the flag is examined, hits can be allocated to each particular a/c.   Looking at this pic Maurice recalled an incident that was not really one the best thing to do.   As we know, when on detachments some of us tend to do things that we would never dream of doing back at 'home'.   At Sylt at that time the normal rivalry existed between the 3 visiting squadrons and somebody on 4 Sqn thought it a good idea to 'stand out in the crowd', so to speak and to show that 'we are Jever'.   In those days bright yellow dusters were used to clean the Hunter canopies and these were found to be ideal to use as a scarf which could be worn inside the uniform jacket.   Naturally this did not go un-noticed for long and after several 'clashes' with the station SPs and a word of authority from the 'top', this breach of dress regulations was short lived.   (Thanks to Maurice Parker.)
