In Feb58 Maurice Parker was seconded to 4 Sqn to assist with the armament practice camp at Sylt from his position as a Station Armourer in the main armoury at Jever.   He found the accommodation was not quite up to the standard of what they were used to back at Jever.   With 3 Hunter squadrons on detachment at the same time ( 14 Sqn. from Alhorn, a Belgium Air Force squadron and 4 Sqn.) he found Sylt to be rather crowded.   In our time we were all brought up to eat an 'English' breakfast in the mornings.   He recalls that at first they all found it rather strange when their Belgium counterparts on the other side of the table would go for 'continental'.   When however the jam was spread on top of the cheese they found this to be extremely odd indeed.   Times have now changed though.
(Thanks to Maurice Parker.)
