Air Commodore P P W Taylor, CBE, AFC, 4 Sqn pilot.

I have to report the passing of Pete Taylor on the 24 July; he had been unwell for a while having been in and out of hospital with pancreatic cancer.

Pete joined the RAF in Sep 1955 on No 73 Entry at RAF Cranwell.   His first tour was on No 92 Sqn Hunters - he went through No 229 OCU at RAF Chivenor again in 1965 from thence to No 43 Sqn in Aden.   He went to No 4 Sqn, RAF Wildenrath Germany on Harriers as Flt Cdr in late 1970.   His aircraft flew on for some time after he ejected following a bird strike over Denmark in May 1972.   Pete was OC No 1 Sqn from 1973-76 and Stn Cdr RAF Bruggen from 1978-81.   He was Gp Capt Offensive Operational Requirements in the MOD for a period and retired from a post at HQ Personnel Management Centre RAF Innsworth.

Pete played a lot of cricket, he was a very good batsman and slip fielder but his real talent lay in the changing rooms where his everlasting jokes and japes kept others amused for hours.   He was also a keen golfer and played for a number of years with the Aircrew Association.
