Venom WE413 A-R hood shattered in flight.   A later incident was described in Flight Comment Jul56 as follows: "Descending at 0.82M at 20,000 ft., the cockpit canopy of this Venom flew open and shattered.   The air blast removed the pilot's bone dome and a piece of perspex penetrated the tailplane.   The failure of the taper pins in the winding mechanism which caused this and two previous accidents, will be overcome by Mod. 929, which is being issued this month."   This aircraft did not arrive on the squadron until 27Oct53.   This may have been one of the two previous incidents as Mike Wraight arrived on 118 Sqn in May53 and from the position of these photographs in his album it was before their Sylt detachment in Jul54.   Anyone know more about this incident?   (Thanks to Mike Wraight.)
