JEVER 1.2.56   OPERATIONAL
A reasonable day's flying resulted in about 23 hrs. flying and saw the squadron
off to a good start for the month.   Many of the practices were on cine, in preparation
for the Sylt detachment.

JEVER 2.2.56   OPERATIONAL
Another good day with some 26 hrs. on Hunters.   Although at the start there were 7
aircraft serviceable, this number fluctuated throughout the day.
A snow clearance plan was inaugurated, some of the pilots having been trained to
drive a snow plough.

JEVER 3.2.56   OPERATIONAL
Although an early start was made, flying was hampered by weather and unservice-
ability. were largely of an individual nature, and about 17 hrs. were flown.
PERSONNEL
Fg. Off. Barraclough and F.S. Ward left today for the U.K. to ferry back two
aircraft to the Squadron.

JEVER 4.2.56   OPERATIONAL

JEVER 5.2.56   STAND-DOWN
JEVER 6.2.56   OPERATIONAL
Flying did not start until about 1030 hrs. and for most of the day was restricted
to a pair, producing 14 hrs. flying time.

JEVER 7.2.56   OPERATIONAL
With only 4 aircraft available, the day was mostly devoted to individual sorties.
Two pilots were given conversion trips and some 18hrs. were logged.

JEVER 8.2.56   OPERATIONAL
Poor visibility prevented flying from taking place this morning, and general sports
took place this afternoon.

JEVER 9.2.56   OPERATIONAL
A good day's flying with 6 aircraft, giving a total of some 28 hrs. on operational
type.   Again the sorties were mainly of an individual nature.

JEVER 10.2.56   OPERATIONAL
A fairly good day with over 20 hrs.   Mostly preparation for Sylt.   The monthly
target is still being exceeded.

Flying did not start until 0900 hrs. today and only a few hours were flown.

JEVER 12.2.56   STAND-DOWN
JEVER 13.2.56   OPERATIONAL
Full flying early on was reduced to one pair by the weather conditions, and only

Five pilots are attending a weeks lectures in preparation for Promotion Examinations
"B" and are not available for flying duties.

JEVER 15.2.56   OPERATIONAL
Weather and runway were not too good at first, but flying eventually commenced
with a pair, which was all that was allowed all day.   Nevertheless, 10hrs. flying, again
on Sylt quarters, was carried out.
As the Officers Mess is being decorated for the forthcoming Ball, most evenings
are spent on this work.

JEVER 16.2.56   OPERATIONAL
Although 6 aircraft were available, fog precluded the possibility of
flying and Mess decorations were continued.

JEVER 17.2.56   OPERATIONAL
No flying until 1100 hrs. when a pair with Green ratings were allowed to fly.
Snow, however, started at 1400hrs. and flying ceased with only a few details completed.

JEVER 19.2.56   STAND-DOWN

JEVER 25.2.56   STAND-DOWN
JEVER 26.2.56   STAND-DOWN
JEVER 27.2.56   OPERATIONAL
At first it looked as though the Squadron would not get to Sylt today, because of
bad weather, but a slight improvement enabled them to fly up after lunch.
A briefing was held later by the Station Commander and the Wing Commander Flying.

SYLT 28.2.56   OPERATIONAL
Although the firing programme should have started today, the weather was very
bad and no flying was done at all.

SYLT 29.2.56   OPERATIONAL
Again bad weather prevented flying.   It is not very encouraging to be experiencing
this sort of thing as this is the first time Hunters have been to Sylt.
